A Note From Our Founder, Adrienne Griffin

I'm so happy you're here!  My name is Adrienne and I would like to personally welcome you to The Kindness Movement.

I created The Kindness Movement to honor the legacy of my dad, Joe Wardy, a beloved teacher who devoted his life to kindness.

As a longtime student of Zen Buddhism, my father wrote a vow of kindness over ten years ago and placed it inside of his Buddha statue.

In it, he wrote:

AS I CONTINUE TO HEAL, I DEVOTE MY LIFE TO THE HEALING OF OTHERS THROUGH THE PRACTICE OF KINDNESS.

What followed was an incredible movement that helped to heal himself, his family, and his community.

In his retirement, he returned to the classroom and began passing out inspirational quotes to his high school students.  They loved it and soon started asking him for quotes so often that he had to keep them in his wallet at all times.

When he was in the hospital, a group of students created a glass jar filled to the brim with quotes--some were quotes he passed to them, some were quotes about how he inspired and uplifted them.

I had the opportunity to meet many of his students and they all showed me their quote collections.  One girl had a jewelry box filled with quotes, another boy had twenty quotes tied together with a rubber band.  One student told me, "Your dad gave me the strength to speak up for myself when I was being bullied."

His small act of kindness made a huge difference in the lives of those students.

I founded The Kindness Movement to continue my father’s mission: to spread kindness in the hopes that others would do the same.

At The Kindness Movement, we believe that kindness is contagious.  No matter how small an action may seem, it can make a huge impact.  We can all make a difference in the world.

Anyone can start their own kindness movement. All it takes is one person to make an enor
